On 1 April 2020, the Government of India merged Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) and United Bank of India into Punjab National Bank as part of its ambitious public sector bank consolidation initiative. This made PNB the second-largest public sector bank in India by total business, after State Bank of India. The combined entity has 180 million customers, 12,000+ branches, and serves every state. IFSC codes for former OBC branches (ORBC prefix) and United Bank branches (UTBI prefix) were replaced with new PNB IFSCs.

Old IFSC codes (ORBC/UTBI) were kept functional for a transition period but should now be updated to the new PNB IFSC in your contacts. Check pnbindia.in for your branch's new IFSC code.

PNB processes a significant share of India's government DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) payments, including PM-KISAN agricultural support, MGNREGS wages, and LPG subsidy credits. These appear prominently in PNB account statements for rural account holders.

Customers of OBC and United Bank were automatically migrated to PNB accounts on 1 April 2020. Account numbers were retained initially, but new PNB account numbers were issued subsequently. IFSC codes changed: ORBC → new PUNB IFSC, UTBI → new PUNB IFSC. Deposit insurance (DICGC) continued uninterrupted. Net banking and mobile apps were migrated to PNB's systems.
Pre-merger statements (before 1 April 2020) are available on request from your PNB home branch (the branch that absorbed the OBC or United Bank branch). The legacy transaction history was migrated to PNB's core banking system. Note that online download may only show post-merger transactions; for older records, visit the branch with your passbook and account details.
PNB ONE is Punjab National Bank's primary mobile banking app for retail customers, available on Android and iOS. It supports account statement download, UPI payments via BHIM PNB, fund transfers, FD booking, and loan EMI payment. PNB also has a separate PNB Finmart app for investment products.
